WELCOME

Stellar Schnauzers is passionate about schnauzers! We feel they are the best all-around pet. They are active, playful, yet cuddly, very smart, non-shedding/hypoallergenic, extremely loyal, and social. Our schnauzers are part of our family. Not only do they make beautiful puppies, but they also make amazing companions. Our schnauzers go camping with us, fishing, hiking and pretty much anything we do. At the end of the day, they are ready to snuggle. They are in our house, snuggling on our couches, and yes, even sleeping in our beds.

Emphasis on Quality

We breed our dogs with genetics in mind. We want healthy puppies that will be a companion for 14+ years. We have our AKC registered parents genetic tested, and our puppies are vet checked and up to date on all shots to make sure they are healthy and ready to go to their new homes. Our puppies are socialized from the start and experience early neurological stimulation, so they are confident as they go to their forever home. We are loving and patient with them as they are raised in our home and have a lot of interactions with other dogs, humans, and cats. We begin potty training, and most puppies go home knowing that they need to do their business in the grass.

A Little About Schnauzers

Schnauzers originally had wiry hair and were standard size. They were working dogs for the farmers killing vermin and great for a watch dog. The German army used them in military service as well. Schnauzers still take the watch dog part of their job seriously but since the mid-1800’s they bred Great Danes to the standard schnauzer and that is the start of the Giant Schnauzer breed. In 1899 they mixed the Affenpinscher or a poodle with the standard schnauzer and that was the beginning of the miniature schnauzer.

Miniature Schnauzers

Miniature Schnauzers still love to kill vermin and are great watch dogs. They are very loyal to their people and fun-loving and smart. They have had the wiry hair bred out of them and are very soft and cuddly. Here at Rocky Mountain Schnauzers, we breed mega coats. That is the softest and thickest of the schnauzer breed coats. They have less matting and are wonderful to cuddle with, leaving no hair on your clothes or a stinky smell. We still have the veterinarian dock their tails and remove dew claws, but we leave the ear docking to the discretion of their new owners. Miniature Schnauzers will need to be groomed every 8 weeks. This includes the haircut, but also the ears and nails.

Giant Schnauzers

Giant Schnauzers are working dogs. They love to have a job to do, yet they are loyal companions. They can be trained in anything from military work, police work, guard dogs, farm dogs (herding), to therapy dogs and service dogs. It is important to train these dogs and plan on giving them attention and a way to exert their energy and mind. They are great family dogs and are NOT easily agitated and they are NOT quick to bite. However, it is important to know that their bite force is 556 psi. They possess one of the highest “bite forces” in dog breeds. Training and time are an important commitment. Depending on their coat, will depend on their grooming needs. A long hair coat will need grooming every 8 weeks. If left long, they will need to be brushed out regularly. The shorter coat takes less maintenance, but their ears will still need to be cleaned and nails clipped regularly. These dogs run hot, and it is something to keep in mind.
